The Inner Life of Animals

This week I have another great feature for you guys. I highly recommend reading the Inner Life of Animals. It is a series of short stories written by someone who isn't a scientist performing tests. He is just a citizen observing animal behavior and coming to some POSSIBLE but not proven conclusions. You don't need to know scientific jargon, it is not a long boring read. In fact, I found it is quite fun and an easy read. He doesn't claim to prove any of his theories, he just explains why he thinks animals have emotion.

Emotion is so hard to prove in the scientific world. In fact, it's so hard that we can't prove it exists in other beings. Most times since we can't prove it exists the scientific world acts as if it doesn't. We say they do this and that because of evolution, because of this mechanism, we rarely allow room for the possibility of emotions. I'm not saying we should assume that all animals have the same emotional intelligence as humans, but so often we underestimate a species and later find out they in fact have that cognitive ability, and we were just looking in the wrong place. Maybe we consider if animals do have emotions, how would this change my outlook and actions to them?

It's a great read. If you read it, let me know what you think.
